Walthers - Mountain Lumber Co Sawmill Kit N
Product Description
Mountain Lumber Co Sawmill Kit N Whether set in the days when Shays and Heislers ruled the forests, or served by contemporary diesels and trucks, the Mountain Lumber Company can be the centerpiece of any logging operation. Everything you'll need to start work is included, from the Log Conveyor to the Burner. The Mill Building is enclosed with board and batten siding and covered with a corrugated metal roof. This style is typical of permanent operations or those that ran in areas where the weather could turn cold. At the back is a canopied area, where fresh-cut boards are sorted. To keep the machinery running, there's a nicely detailed Powerhouse with twin smokestacks. And for the final touch, you get a Sawdust Burner, used to dispose of scrap lumber and sawdust from the cutting operations. Typical of buildings constructed from the 1920s to the 1940s and still in use today, your finished model fits easily into steam- or diesel-era layouts. Keep a steady supply of timber on the move to your mill with the 45' Logging Flats, available in 3-Packs (933-38851 Series) or as individual cars (933-8850 Series), both sold separately. All cars are fully assembled, ready for service.

The Good Woodcutter's Guide: Chain Saws, Woodlots, and Portable Sawmills
The Good Woodcutter's Guide: Chain Saws, Woodlots, and Portable Sawmills
Greg Blanchard, a professional logger, says of Dave Johnson's book, "I enjoyed the book immensely and was constantly amazed to hear someone else describe a predicament which I all too often find myself in. The information is accurate, realistic, and practical."Chain saws can do in a weekend what used to take a wood cutter an entire summer, but at the same time, used improperly or carelessly, they are certainly one of the most dangerous of power tools and can cause serious injury and even death.
Johnson provides a thorough and very readable overall look at choosing a saw, chain brakes, spare parts, felling, managing your woodlot, hard hats, safety equipment and guidelines, advice on sharpening and maintenance, cutting and selling firewood, and the pros and cons of portable sawmills in what is the most comprehensive overview of wood cutting written in recent years. Not a dry, technical manual, Johnson's accessible writing style is similar to Gene Logsdon's in his well-known The Contrary Farmer. The author's expertise on the subject is reinforced by the book's selection for special distribution by Bailey's, the nation's leading mail-order supplier of gear for loggers and foresters. --Mark A. Hetts
